Lorie Kook, O.D.
Dr. Lorie Kook graduated from University of California, Irvine where she received a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. She received her doctorate degree from Southern California College of Optometry in 1998. She is trained and Board Certified to use diagnostic and therapeutic pharmaceuticals for the treatment and management of eye conditions.
Dr. Kook is a certified and experienced provider of Orthokeratology, a non-surgical over-night contact lens treatment for correcting near-sightedness and astigmatism so that patients do not have to rely on glasses and contact lenses during the day. This is a very effective treatment for controlling myopia progression for children. |
Dr. Kook is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), AOA Contact Lens and Cornea Section, California Optometric Association, Orthokeratology Academy of America and Rio Hondo Optometric Society.
One of Dr. Kook's passions is to provide eyecare and glasses to underprivileged people. From year 2004 to 2012, she traveled to Third World countries to provide eye exams and donate sunglasses and reading glasses to those who are less fortunate. She thanks God for allowing and enabling her to share His love to others. She once met a woman in one of the countries she visited who wore the same pair of glasses for over 10 years because she could not afford to buy a new pair. The lenses were horribly scratched up so that even when they were cleaned, the lenses still looked very frosty. Another woman was sharing one pair of reading glasses with the rest of her family. Words cannot describe the joy that comes from seeing smiles on their faces. Some break down in tears; some bring food from their homes when they barely have enough to feed their family. There are so many heart-breaking stories that we don't often hear about. Dr. Kook could not continue the good work since 2013 due to personal reasons, but she looks forward to going back again in the near future.
